Dell PowerEdge M610

As a half height blade server, the Dell PowerEdge M610 offers exceptional memory capacity with an increase of 50% over the previous M610 generation for a total of up to 192 Gigabytes (GB). Well-suited for intensive I/O applications, the enhanced memory capacity of the PowerEdge M610 makes it ideal for quick and easy virtualization deployment by means of embedded hypervisors from companies such as VMware, Citrix and Microsoft. Not only does the Dell M610 offer improved memory capacity, but improved memory technologies as well. The M610 utilizes Double Data Rate 3 (DDR3) memory, which provides a higher bandwidth than previous memory types such as Double Data Rate 2 (DDR2) and Fully Buffered DIMM (FBD), as well as reduced power consumption. Another design feature that enhances the overall system memory is the addition of more memory slots, configured with 12 DIMM Modules, which allows for smaller DIMM to be used – and the smaller DIMM is much more cost-effective, although it offers the same capacity for meeting computing needs.

One way to enhance the already advantageous feature set of the Dell PowerEdge M610 is to combine it with a Dell PowerEdge M1000e blade enclosure. The addition of the M1000e blade enclosure increases the level of performance per watt, as well as increasing the thermal design efficiency of components such as power supplies and fans, and optimizing the system design for enhanced air flow. Another advantageous combination for the Dell M610 blade server is to combine it with Dell EqualLogic storage. The main benefit that this combination provides is that it can support 22% more virtual machines than a comparable combination of HP products.  Another improvement that the latest M610 server blade offers over previous generations is enhanced flexibility and investment protection by means of FlexMigration technology, which is a new feature that allows it to integrate multiple generations of Intel Xeon processors. In addition to a choice in generation, the Dell M610 has a choice of processor series between the 5500 and 5600 series of Intel Xeon processors.
