Dell PowerEdge M710

The Dell PowerEdge M710 takes the step up to full-height, as a blade server designed for the data centers of today with robust and scalable features. With the expanded capacity, the PowerEdge M710 offers increased Dual In-line Memory Module (DIMM) slots, 18 in total, allowing the M710 to hold a maximum total Random Access Memory (RAM) of 192 Gigabytes (GB). Another benefit the expanded capacity of the M710 provides is the increased I/O bandwidth it allows, which is double the amount that is provided by a half-height blade server. In fact, one of the scalable features of the M710 allows it to scale I/O bandwidth by means of end to end 10 Gigabit Ethernet (Gbe) or Fibre Channel (FC) cables. With all of these additional features enabled by the full-height blade server design versus the half-height design, the M710 is an excellent enterprise platform for virtualization deployment, made easy by the integration of embedded VMware, Citrix or Microsoft hypervisors.

In addition to expanded capacities, the Dell M710 blade server also features the integration of many new technologies. One such technology is called Dell Intelligent Power Technology, a new feature that puts the server into a lower power state in response to lower demand, which reduces operating expenses by not wasting the total power capacity when it isn’t necessary. Not only able to lower the power state, the performance of the Dell M710 can be boosted by means of Intel Turbo Boost technology when higher performance is demanded. Additionally, the necessary components of a PowerEdge blade server have been improved with technological advancements as well. For instance, the processors that the M710 are equipped with are Intel Xeon processors from the 5500 or 5600 series, featuring either 4 or 6 cores and are designed to respond in real time, completing multiple tasks simultaneously. Additional features of the M710 server blade include up to 4 hot-swappable Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or Solid State Drives (SSD) drives and three fully redundant fabrics.
