Dell PowerEdge C6100 Cloud Servers

Configured in a familiar 2U rack form, Dell PowerEdge C6100 servers are a new kind of server – a cloud server. Now, I know what you’re going to say….seriously – a CLOUD server? You want me to entrust the computing power of my data center to a visible mass of condensed water vapor? Yeah, I get it – explanation required. A cloud server is a server that has been virtualized to operate multiple servers as though they were one computer, allowing them to be optimized for public and private cloud computing applications. And yet these amazing new Dell C6100 cloud servers aren’t limited to cloud computing applications, they also work for Web 2.0, High Performance Computing (HPC), large scale-out web farms, video rendering and large, homogenous cluster applications. And since they are built on x 86 architecture, the Dell C6100 servers aren’t completely unlike the rest of their PowerEdge family – just packed with more memory, computing power, serviceability…basically, they’re PowerEdge on steroids.

Some of the design features that allow the Dell PowerEdge C6100 series to offer such performance-enhanced capabilities include dual-port embedded Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 2 external Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports. But that’s just the tip of the cloud server iceberg – further advantages of Dell C6100 servers include high flexibility with options that allow for the sweet freedom of choice with support for up to either 12 3.5” or 24 2.5” hot-pluggable Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) or Solid State Drives (SSD). And since the Dell PowerEdge C6100 is configured with 12 slots of up to 96 Gigabytes (GB) of Double Data Rate 3 (DDR3) memory, along with the option of dual 5500 or 5600 multi-core Intel Xeon processors and multiple PCI-E slots…well, it’s pretty clear that the C6100 packs a punch – heck, it’s the PowerEdge heavy-weight champion.
