Building on the architecture of previous HP ProLiant servers, the HP ProLiant DL380 Generation 7 (G7) offers several new advantages including enhanced performance and flexibility, as well as improved uptime and energy-efficiency. Designed in a dense 2U form factor, the HP DL380 G7 is equipped with the latest technology in processors from Intel: 2-socket Intel Xeon 5600 series processors available with 2, 4 or 6 cores. The HP ProLiant DL 380 G7 can even be configured with 2 of these top-of-the-line processors, allowing for a maximum of 12 cores for optimum performance, power efficiency and adaptability. Additional adaptable features include a standard of 6 Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI)-Express expansion slots, a new product amongst expansion slots with vast technological improvements, and an embedded HP Smart Array P410i RAID controller, another leap forward in technology with easy, optional upgrade features and the ability to support up-to-date SCSI technology.

Another way that the ProLiant DL380 G7 offers advanced technologies is through integrated VMware and Xenware virtualization technology, which provides exceptional server consolidation and energy efficiency. Energy efficiency is a key advantage of the DL380 G7, also provided through the use of right-sized ProLiant power supplies with a rate of 92% efficiency and higher. Additionally, the DL380 G7 is configured with 18 slots of Double Data Rate 3 (DDR3) memory and is able to support either registered DDR3 memory or unbuffered DDR3 memory. The combination of the 18 slots of memory allows the DL380 G7 to meet the requirements of memory intensive applications with a capacity for up to 384 Gigabytes (GB) of DDR3 memory. With this much memory, protection is important and the DL 380 G7 offers such protective features as Advanced Error Correcting Code (ECC), lockstep mode and mirroring mode. Additional tools such as SmartStart and Rapid Deployment Pack allow simplified configuration and deployment for this particular HP ProLiant rack server.
