The IBM BladeCenter Enclosure family has a model ideal for any kind of blade need.  Whether its affordability, power, or mobility, there's a chassis that will meet the requirements of every datacenter.  For the average user, there are typically three major options.

The IBM E Chassis was the first enclosure produced for IBM’s blade family.  At 7U, the 8677 Model allows for up to 14 blades.  It is powered by two power supply modules standard with the option of installing two more.   These additional power supply modules are only optional until more than 6 blades are installed in the chassis, then they are required.   The E Chassis comes with a standard management module with an option for a second and also 4 switch module bays.  It’s important to note that the standard model E Chassis cannot support blades with higher than 80 Watt processors.

The IBM H Chassis is the higher power older brother of the E Chassis.  It too has a capacity for 14 blades however it is 9U tall.  That extra space allows for a lot more performance!  The H Chassis provides room for up to 10 I/O modules and also include a standard management module with an additional optional.  Module bays 7, 8, 9 and 10 are specifically designed for high speed throughput but can be adapted to use regular I/O modules as well.  This enclosure also include two standard power supplies with a total of four required if one wishes to populate every blade bay. 

The IBM S Chassis is specifically meant for remote use.  It has 6 blade bays, 12 drive bays (accessible with additional options,) and the maximum capacity of 4 I/O modules.  The S Chassis is not compatible with all I/O modules, contact a representative for more information.  Possibly the main draw of the S Chassis is its ability to run on standard 110 Volt current meaning a small office wouldn’t have to require additional electricity options.
