IBM HS21 XM Blade Servers

IBM HS21 XM Blade Servers » Vista Computer Group

In the IBM HS21 XM, the XM stands for Extended Memory. This blade shares many of the same characteristics of its lower memory capacity counterpart however there are two specific features that separate the two models.

The HS21 XM blade has a maximum capacity of 64GB of memory spread out over 8 DIMM slots; this is double the capacity of the standard HS21. Doubling the memory capacity limits the HS21 XM to a single internal SAS or SATA hard drive instead of two.

For users utilizing a SAN, this difference will have no negative effect on their performance. In fact, many companies opt to boot from their SAN, eliminating the need for an internal drive at all.  Both E and H Chassis allow for up to 14 blades installed, meaning a lot of computing power can be installed in as little as a 7U space.  That’s 896GB of memory, 84GHz of processing power, and 28 integrated 10Gb Ethernet ports; not to mention, a standard 42U rack will hold 6 of these full configured BladeCenters which is a huge plus for anyone trying to consolidate as many as 84 servers!

This blade comes standard with either one or two Dual-Core or Quad-Core processors spanning the 5100, 5300, and 5400 Series, 1 or 2GB of RAM, a single PCI slot, and dual integrated Ethernet ports, however it can be configured any way the user desires.  It’s compatible with every IBM BladeCenter Chassis. Perfect for a virtualized environment, the HS21 XM Bladeserver is a high powered, stream-lined machine that’s up to virtually any task.
